Line managers play a pivotal role in workplace stress management. In order to reduce and manage workplace stress effectively, employers need to ensure that managers demonstrate the skills and behaviours that allow them to manage their staff in ways that minimise work-related stress. Managers need to have an informed understanding not only of what stress is and how to identify and tackleit, but also of how their own behaviour impacts on the stress levels of those they manage.
This interactive session will explore which manager behaviours are most important for preventing and reducing stress in staff.
It will reveal the findings of recently published research, funded by the Health and Safety Executive and Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, which has developed a competency framework identifying the specific behaviours required by managers to implement the HSE Management Standards for stress.
